ABOUT

Southwestern Yacht Club has an unmatched location in a picturesque Point Loma residential area within the Shelter Island Yacht Basin. There are nearby walking trails, local restaurants and boating services. SWYC offers convenient and direct access to both San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean directly from its docks. With stunning views of Point Loma and San Diego Bay, SWYC features a state-of-the-art yachting Clubhouse and facilities, refurbished in 2010.

Committed to community involvement, SWYC hosts annual fundraising events, known as our Benefit on the Bay events. These events include a gala, a bay race with a post-race BBQ, and our famous Bottom Fishing Tournament hosted by the SWYC Anglers, with all proceeds supporting a deserving San Diego foundation. The Club proudly supports various community initiatives, such as the Junior Foundation, which provides scholarships for youth sailing programs, the White Sea Bass Release Project, Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea, and ElderHelp of San Diego. Established 99 years ago, we take immense pride in our rich traditions, exceptional staff and facilities, and the warm, family-friendly culture that has made us renowned as "The Friendliest Yacht Club."

Tradition and Heritage:  As we approach our Centennial Celebration in 2025, we honor the traditions that have shaped Southwestern Yacht Club into the welcoming community it is today. Our history is marked by a commitment to camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a passion for the sea. Joining our club means becoming a part of a legacy that spans nearly a century.

Exceptional Staff and Facilities:  Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our dedicated staff and high-quality facilities overlooking the stunning waterfront of San Diego Bay.  We are focused on ensuring your experience provides a setting for camaraderie, recreation, and relaxation, both on and off the water.

Family-Friendly Culture:  More than a club, Southwestern Yacht Club is a community that welcomes members of all ages. Our family-friendly culture is designed to create an environment where both the young and young-at-heart can enjoy various amenities and activities. From sailing, angling, and cruising to engaging social events, there's something for every member of your family.

Juniors and FamiliesOur commitment to the next generation is evident in our Junior Sailing and Angling Programs. We take great pride in offering a safe and educational environment for young sailors and anglers to develop skills, build friendships, and cultivate a lifelong love for the water. Families are the heartbeat of our Club, and we cherish the memories created together on and off the water.

A "Second Home" Rooted in Volunteerism  We believe in the power of community and the strength that comes from members actively participating in club life. We consider the club a "second home" where everyone contributes to the vibrant culture of our community. Whether organizing events, participating in regattas, or supporting charitable initiatives, the spirit of volunteerism is what makes our club truly special.

Philanthropy and Charity We are dedicated to making a positive impact on our community, and our membership actively engages in numerous philanthropic and charity events, extending our reach beyond the Club.  Joining our Club means becoming part of a community that values giving back.

"Centennial and Beyond, Full Speed Ahead":  As we approach our Centennial year, we are thrilled to embrace the theme "Centennial and Beyond, Full Speed Ahead." This theme embodies our commitment to not only celebrate our storied past but to also set sail into a future filled with continued growth, innovation, and camaraderie.
